Not your average CBR600RR!
With the National Road Race calendar kicking of in just over two months a lot of preparation has been going on with the Castrol Honda team riders. Here is a brief outline of what goes into building a top level 600 Supersport machine.

While the CBR600RR is a fantastic road bike the Supersport rules allow a few modifications that greatly improve the on track performance.
The engine must remain relatively stock except for the fitment of race cam shafts. The standard Honda cams are replaced with HRC items and the engine also gets as a small rise in compression.
To help the bike breathe a little easier a BMC air filter is fitted and a set of Factory Pro velocity stacks push the power up higher up the rev range. The spent gas exits via an Akrapovic evolution titanium race exhaust which not only increases horsepower but also shaves off more than 3 kg.
To control the fuel and ignition an HRC ECU is fitted in conjunction with a Power Commander 5. The whole package is then Dyno tuned buy the good guys at Dynoworx in Ashburton. The end result is approximately 15 - 20% more horsepower than the stock road bike.
To get this power to the ground the bike is fitted with Bridgestone R10 race tyres. These are a brand new production race tyre developed with technology directly from MotoGP. Ohlins suspension is used at both ends with a TTX36 shock absorber in the rear and Ohlins NIX 25 cartridge system in the front.
Other features on the bike include RK chain and sprockets, a Power commander Quick shifter (which allows gear changes to be made without closing the throttle), an HRC Data logger, HRC quick twist throttle, light weight race fairings, braided steel brake lines and Moto-bum adjustable rear sets.
The result - one seriously fast Castrol Honda CBR600RR. Keep an eye out for it at the track this summer.
