Having a weekend off racing is a rare occasion – with juggling the GNCC series, Bel Ray cross country, National Enduro Champs, Endurocross events, training and everything in between, there is not much time for messing around on the bike. Last month I realised I was going to have a weekend free and put the word out on Facebook about the possibility of a Ladies Only Coaching day. Well it just straight blew up and the 10 available spots were full in a matter of days, with more ladies looking to learn the basics having to be turned away as I didn’t want too many ladies so everyone got a good shot at learning some stuff.

Everyone turned up at 8:30am and we quickly got cracking into the learning process, working mostly on Balance, Throttle Control, Clutch Control, Braking and Controlled Wheelies. The range on abilities throughout the group was larger than I expected – everything from very, very beginners to quite competent ladies who just required refinement of their technique. By the end of the day, which was about 4:30pm, we had some pretty tired girls. The day ended with a quick ride that took in a steep downhill, which was on top of the list of fears for a lot of the girls. Only one couldn’t manage the courage to give it a go.

I enjoy coaching, especially beginners. They can learn so much and it’s good to help instil the proper technique right from the get go. I hope to do a few more in the coming months when I have another spare weekend. It’s good to put back into the sport when you can and I guess this is a way I can do it while still having a good time.

This coming weekend will be a training weekend as I try to wind myself up for the next big event, which will be the Castrol Honda 6 Hour. After that will be round 2 of the National Enduro Champs. Its going to be a very busy month coming up.

Thanks to everyone for your continued help.

Chris Power
