Strong Weekend for Castrol Honda Red Riders
Pukekohe’s Hayden Fitzgerald led the charge for the Red Riders with a win in the first 600 Sports Production class race in the rain on Saturday afternoon, at Round Two of the SsangYong New Zealand Road Race Championship at Manfeild Park just outside Palmerston North, over the weekend
Unfortunately the race was stopped due to the weather and only half points awarded. Fitzgerald came out firing on Sunday and was dicing with the leaders when he fell heavily, forcing him out.
In the third race he experienced problems with a cutoff switch, activated by the accident, so finished the weekend in 7th overall.
Nelson’s Dean Fulton on his CBR1000RR had a good weekend, with two 4ths and a 6th, behind the hard charging Suzuki trio of Andrew Stroud, Ray Clee and Shawn Giles, finishing the weekend 5th overall.
“It was a much better weekend, the bike is more than competitive. All we need to do is continue to improve our starts,” said Fulton after the races
Hamilton’s Jared Love on the second CBR1000RR picked up a 4th, a 6th and a 7th, in the extremely competitive field, where there was only four seconds between the winner and seventh place.
This leaves Love in 6th place overall 9 points behind Fulton.
The third round of the SsangYong New Zealand Road Race Championships will be held at Teretonga on 7-8 January 2006.
