Strong Showing from Red Riders
The weather conditions at Round Four of the SsangYong New Zealand Road Race Championships at Levels Raceway, outside Timaru, were a vast improvement on those experienced at Round Three in Invercargill.
The fine weather and dry track conditions made for some excellent racing.
Hamilton’s Jared Love and Nelson’s Dean Fulton both had good weekends on their CBR1000RRs; hard on the heels of the winning quartet of Australians Shawn Giles and Scott Charlton, Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud and Kumeu’s Ray Clee. Fulton picked up a fourth, a fifth and a sixth, while Love finished with two fifths and a sixth. The pair are now fifth and sixth respectively on the points table
Young Pukekohe rider, Hayden Fitzgerald had a very consistent weekend on his CBR600RR, scoring three fifths. The Levels track is recognised as being one of the most testing tracks in Australasia.
Three times Australian Superbike Champion Shawn Giles commented, “If you can do well at Levels, you can do well anywhere.”
Fitzgerald is sixth on the point’s table with Australian Chris Seaton clearly in his sights.
The Honda Red Riders will remain in the South this week, for the final round next weekend, January 21/22, at Ruapuna Park outside Christchurch.
