HONDA & MRRDA TO RETURN IN 2008
The series wrapped up last week after taking place over five rounds nationally with young Ryan Dymond taking out the Championship.
As part of his winner’s package, Dymond also deservedly won the highly sought after trip to
compete in the Red Bull Rookies Cup Final trials in France this month.
Whilst the 13 – 15 year old riders were judged on their marketability, attitude, character and skill as
well as their racing, the winner of the on-track component, Queenslander Jake Horne, also snared
a spot at the Asean Cup in Motegi, Japan compliments of Honda Australia and Honda Motor Co.Pty Ltd.
The ASEAN Cup prize and the Red Bull Rookies trip will also continue to be offered as an incentive at the 2008 series.
MRRDA Committee Chairman Paul Edwards said overall the series was deemed to be very much
a success in its first year, and signing with Honda once again was a just end for the groundwork
put down throughout the season.
“Like all new ventures, we had a few teething problems, but we ultimately got them worked out; this
series did not disappoint in terms of providing world class racing,” he said.
“To have Honda on board again next year is a huge vote of confidence, and a clear indication that
we are here to stay.”
“Everyone involved, including Honda and the other sponsors have been fantastic during the growth
stage, and from humble beginnings we can look forward to an even bigger year in 2008.”
Honda’s Brand and Product Planning Manager, Phil Reynolds said the manufacturer was very
happy to up the level of support for next year.
“I personally enjoyed being a part of the MRRDA series, and on behalf of Honda, can say we were
very happy to see the introduction of a competition that is fostering young champions from Australia.”
