Honda Red Riders Head for the Sunny Hawkes Bay

Following their recent successes at the Taupo International MotoX, and Round 1 of the NZ Nationals the riders are all keen to continue the battle on the local front.

Tauranga’s Peter Broxholme has recovered from his fall in the "Sand pit" at Taupo and is keen to continue his MX1 tussle with the Yamaha mounted King Brothers, on his ’09 CRF450.

Broxholme is only two points adrift of series leader Damien King.

Hawera’s Luke Burkhart will again sit out this round, although he has been training on his machine this week, he doesn’t think he will be 100% until round three in Timaru in December.

This round, Burkhart’s machine will again be campaigned by Lower Hutt based Scotsman Barry Morris, who ran in 6th …… the Internationals last week .

Rotorua’s Michael Phillips hopes to increase his one point lead over Suzuki’s Daryl Hurley. Phillips is on a high after being the first resident New Zealand rider home after the three International in the International Invitational at Taupo last weekend. Which was some feat considering he was on a (MX2) CRF250R while a considerable number of the rest of the field were on (MX1) 450 racers.

Phillips will again be ably supported by Christchurch’s Justin McDonald who took his ’09 CRF250 to a win in the second MX2 race at round one in Rotorua. It seems they both enjoy the high podium places each meeting.

Youngest team member, Taupo’s Cameron Dillon will be endeavouring to live up to his local newspaper’s headline by again leaving his rival in his dust, in the Newly formed Under 21 125cc class, which raced with the 125cc Two-Stroke class.

The 16-year-old finished six points clear of Suzuki’s Matt Hunt in the Under 21 class and is only six points behind overall 125cc Two-Stroke class leader Damien King (Yamaha).

"The Boys are all ready and rearing to go for round two," said Team Manager 1996 World 500cc Motocross Champion, Shayne King from his New Plymouth base this week.
