Junior world MX Champs - Taupo
On 15/16 August Taupo will once again be under the world motocross spotlight. The Central North Island town that punches well above it's weight in International Motor racing plays host to the World Junior Motocross Championship. Honda will be well represented at this prestigious event, being held outside of Europe for the first time ever.
Two of the Kiwi hopefuls are hometown hero Cameron Dillon and Otago's Campbell King, riding CRF250R's and CRF150R's respectively. They will have their work cut out for them up against some of the best young riders in the world on some very fast machines.
Cam Dillon has had a strong build up to the event, winning the New Zealand under 21 125cc Championship, followed by the 14 - 16 250cc and 15 - 16 125cc NZ Junior championship tittles. He also won the Jim Hall Memorial scholarship giving him the chance to race in the USA against some very fast riders. This experience will give Cam an idea of what he will be up against in Taupo.
Some of the riders out to beat Cam will be pitted right next to him in the Honda Team set-up. Amsoil / Factory Connection, Honda's Eli Tomac from the USA and Martin Honda Racing's Giacomo Del Segato from Italy.
Campbell King will face some strong competition parked next to him also in the way of Dutch CRF150 rider Lars van Berkel. Lars is a member of the Nestaan Jumbo MX team and is currently leading the Dutch open 85cc championship and is 4th in the European 85cc championship. He won a world BMX title in 2005 before switching to motocross in 2006.
The racing is sure to be exciting and the Honda riders are sure to be at the sharp end of the field, so if you are able get along to the Taupo Motocross track and cheer them on.
