Final Round of the MX Nationals this weekend!

Honda lead both Championships MX1 and MX2 - and would you believe it, on 2009 bikes. Going into this weekends final round of the Demon Energy NZ Motocross Championship held at Barrett Road, in New Plymouth, all four factory Honda riders are top placed and they are all eager to get on the start line so be ready to expect fireworks and motocross at its best!

Christchurch's Justin McDonald aboard the Honda CRF450R9, leads the MX1 (450cc) class 11 points ahead of fellow Kiwi international Cody Cooper (Suzuki). Justin comments "I have had a good week with plenty of recovery and a very focused build up and am looking forward to the drop of the gate - I feel this is my year”.

In the MX2 (250cc) class, the battle is tense between Honda Red Rider Michael Phillips (CRF250R9) and Suzuki's Scott Columb. Phillips is 4 points ahead of probationary Columb. Phillips said "Lets go racing! I have had a great week and I am super excited about the weekend, looks like some rain is coming through so it will bring another point of difference to the awesome Taranaki track - I'm going to the last round to win."

The other MX2 Honda rider, Broxy had a surge at round 3 however was spoiled by probationary Scott Columb who through reckless riding sent Broxy over the bars which robbed Broxy of some valuable points for this weekend. However Broxy adds "This week I am focused on one thing and that’s to go out and win!"

Our MX2 apprentice Cameron Dillon in his first year on the CRF250R9, is also having a great year with podiums and consistent top 5 finishes, a strong first senior year. Eager to get a start and comments "I am pleased to be keeping pace - I'm learning a lot in the team environment".

Team Honda Race Manager Shayne King adds "All the guys are super fired up for Sunday and with this weather looking like it is going to turn into rain it is going to be exciting to say the least, I am very happy with our results up to this point, and leading both classes going into the last round makes for some good nerves that’s for sure! But I have been here many times myself and I know we have a very strong and focused group of guys and am feeling very confident for the weekend." King goes on to comment " I would also like to say thanks to the Honda dealers that have this week given there support with phone calls, texts and e-mails, we all really appreciate your efforts out there, and we would love to reward you all with two titles for 2009." The final round of the national motocross is one event not to be missed this weekend.
