Italian Ivan Lazzarini rated the fastest Supermotard rider in the world on the track is coming to New Zealand to compete in the Tri-Series during December and January on a Honda CRF450R09 with the support of the Honda Riders Club New Zealand and Northern Accessories.
Ivan was born in Pesaro in 1979 and is the nephew of the three-times World Motorcycle Racing Champion 'Eugenio Lazzarini'.
Lazzarini made his minicross debut at the age of 7, immediately chalking up numerous successes in the Regional Championships.
Ivan has the largest collection of titles on the Italian Motard scene. He has won the Italian Supermoto Championship six times (including four years in a row, between 2003 - 2006) and the Supermoto of Nations Trophy four times; in the three consecutive years between 2004 - 2006 and again in 2008. Together with Gerald Delphine, he is also the super rider who has taken part in the largest number of Grand Prix.
Ivan will raise the profile of Motard racing and will arrive in New Zealand 16th December just two days before the first round of the New Zealand Tri Series at Manfeild Saturday 19 December.
In between Round 1 and 2 Ivan will head to the Taupo track on the 22nd December to attend a special Honda Riders Club event where riders are invited to come along, ride and learn with Ivan. After attending the Honda Riders Club special event Ivan will head to Round 2 held at the Cemetery Circuit in Wanganui on Boxing day. Round 3 will be held at Taupo Motorsport Park, 28 December. Ivan will depart New Zealand for his trip home 29 December 2009, and New Zealand will be all the richer for his visit.
